Position Description

The Research and Educational Support is seeking a qualified candidate for the Library Specialist position.

The incumbent will be expected to work regularly-scheduled hours at the Information Center Service Desk, providing comprehensive assistance to library users in a face-to-face, phone or online setting. Services will include providing information about and assistance with collections, circulation/reserves, interlibrary loan/document delivery and providing high-quality ready reference and directional information. The incumbent will identify and refer requests for customized or expert reference and research services to appropriate liaison librarians or other University Library System (ULS) libraries.

Duties include processing/retrieving materials to fill patron initiated (Get It!) requests; Providing assistance with Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request; Managing the transfer of library materials to/from various library collections.

Hours of work (general): Mon. – Fri. 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 4/days week; 1:30 – 10:00 p.m. 1/day week; one weekend/month; one University holiday/term.

Minimum Related Experience Level Required Less than 1 year experience

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s or four years relevant experience plus high school diploma/GED required. Must have a strong academic background or relevant experience in order to answer basic reference questions and to have an understanding of the academic research process. Previous experience using computers is required. Previous library experience, preferred.

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
